New Fee Schedule, as of July 1, 2007:

A. Transmission Electron Microscopy

Full
Independent**
Routine Specimen Preparation:*
  1) fixation through embedding 1-2 samples
$350.00
$70.00 (for supplies only)
    3-10 samples $450.00
over 10 samples +$45.00/each additional sample

Microtomy:
  1) thick sectioning & staining/blk
$35.00/blk
$20.00/hr (Leica Ultracut only)
  2) thin sectioning & staining/blk (for every 4 grids )
$55.00/blk
$20.00/hr (Leica Ultracut only)

Electron Microscopy:
per hour spent on scope   $160.00
$80.00

Photography:***
  1) Compact discs    $4.00
  2) Prints on plain paper   $1.00
  3) Prints on glossy paper   $2.00

Technical Time:   $80.00/hr

*A modified Karnovsky's fixative can be provided for up to 10 specimens, additional fixatives or special types will be at an extra cost. Tissue specimens for TEM should be about 2 x 2 x 2mm or smaller. For special types of specimens (cultured cells, thin layers of tissue, tissue that requires special orientation) contact Caroline Miller (camiller@anatomy.iupui.edu) for instructions.

**This represents a reasonable amount of supplies for fixation and embedding, including, slides, grids, stains, and equipment usage. The EM Center provides 4 hours of training in electron microscopy techniques and use of the TEM . The cost for this training is charged to the researcher at the independent rate of $80/hour.

***This represents direct digital images. EM film is not used in the EM Center

B. Special Procedures, Immunocytochemistry-EM level (no independent)

Specimen Preperation:
  1) Fixation- embedding, unicryl 1-2 samples
$350.00

    3-10 samples $450.00
    over 10 samples +$45.00/sample

  2)fixation-embedding, LRG 1-2 samples $385.00
    3-10 samples $495.00
    over 10 samples +$50.00/sample

  3) Cryo Preparation
  a. cryo fixation 1-2 samples $100.00
    over 2 samples +45.00/sample
  b. high pressure freezing   $100.00/hour
This includes the cost of 1 technician, a minimum of 20 liters of liquid Nitrogen ($4/liter) and specific HPF supplies.
  c.Automatic Freeze Substitution   $100.00/run
This includes the cost of a minimum of 20 liters of liquid Nitrogen ($4/liter) and specific AFS supplies.

  Microtomy:
  1) Thick sectioning & staining/blk    $40.00
  2) Thin sectioning & staining/blk 8 grids $60.00
Eight grids represents enough for 2 immuno attempts, there will be a $5 charge per grid over eight.

  3)Cryo sectioning/blk, thick and thin    $150.00
There will be an additional charge for liquid Nitrogen ($4/liter) min of 40 liters

  4) Vibratome sectioning/sample  $80.00

5) Immunostaining, for each attempt & antibody****

$400.00

6) Negative Staining (per grid)

 $45.00

****Results cannot be guaranteed since antibody specificity/titer, quality/fixation of tissue and amount of target protein can limit success. Investigator provides primary antibody and necessary background literature.

C. Scanning Electron Microscopy:

Full
Independent**
Routine Specimen Preparation:
  1) Fixation-coating, 5 samples
$500.00
$90.00 (supplies only)
    over 5 samples +$45.00/each

Electron Microscopy:   $160.00/hour $80/hour

Photography:
  1) compact discs   $4.00
  2)prints on plain paper   $1.00
  3) prints on glossy paper   $2.00

**This represents a reasonable amount of supplies for fixation through drying (CPD or chemical), mounting and coating. The EM Center provides 4 hours of training in electron microscopy techniques and use of the SEM. The cost of this training is charged to the researcher at the independent rate of $80/hour.

D. EM evaluation/consultation:

Each incoming project receives an hour consultation at no charge, thereafter there is an $80 per hour charge for time spent researching techniques, evaluating data (quantitive and/or qualitive) or for anything extra beyond routine. The EM Center provides 4 hours of training in electron microscopy techniques or use of either the TEM or SEM. The cost for this training is charged to the investigator at the independent rate of $80/hour.

E. Outside/ Commercial Projects
Each project will be charged double the cost of regular fee schedule, due to lack of subsidy.
